CMC Gen. James Conway, serves chow to Marines at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, Nov. 26, 2009. (I have no idea when the practice of officers, let alone the THE Commandant started on serving the enlisted but as the official Old Vietnam Veteran and I can tell you this was not done when I was in the green machine-however- I do recall when CMC Wallace M. Greene Jr.,was in Vietnam and in a chopper dropped out of nowhere into a lonely steep observation hilltop with extra tooth brushes and other goodies to a dozen Marines holding lookout vigil. Total Shock was the only way to describe the Marine's reaction to the CMC dropping in to check on their welfare)
