Sgt. Maj. Robert Cottle is my cousin. Unfortunately, we received word today that he and his unit were hit and there were no survivors. He was an amazing person in every way. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts.

I met R.J. about a year ago in PA when he was here for SWAT training of local police officers. I was terribly saddened to hear the news of his untimely passing. My heart goes out to his family. He will be greatly missed.

Sgt. Maj. Robert J. Cottle, a warrior brought down in his prime. This never should have happened. He nor anyone else should be in that IED deathtrap called the LAR. It doesn't have a v-shaped hull and is totally inadequate against landmines let alone powerful IED's. The incompetent General Conway has had years to deploy MRAP's and most recently MATV's but is on record as having procrastinated. The corrupt self-serving DOD procurement officials also have blood on their hands once again.

My Son Cpl. Harrison with the 4th,LAR Alpha Co phoned from the field last night and said there were losses in the field. As a Marine Corps mother, to my extended Marine Corps family, my heart breaks for your losses. You are in our thoughts and our prayers. Your families have suffered the greatest sacrifice...

RJ Cottle was the epitome of a true modern day warrior. He excelled and acheived as a part of the Recon community with the Marine Corps and was a member of the finest and most elite police swat team in the world. He fought the "Good Fight" every day of his life and those who got to know him are better for it.

Rest in Peace brother. You did well.
