You know, I have read about this 81mm mortar capability but this is the first picture I've seen of a Marine LAV firing one. This one is from the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. Rounds are huge compared to the 60 round. I bet it's one noisy job to fire an M-252 81 mm mortar system inside a War Pig. Wonder if any are actually in Afghanistan. Probably not. This pix was taken during a field operation at the 1st Marine Division Schools at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., April 21, 2005. USMC photo Cpl. Kenneth E.
