Both are comparable service weapons, but while the L85a2 has a"slight edge" in accuracy over the M4, the M4 is a more flexible weapon in terms of repair, combat operations, and accessories.

The MoD did a test, which I believe is dubious, where they found the L85a2 "superior" to the M4( meanwhile British special forces units like SAS,SBS, Para commando reg, Royal Marine Commandos, ALL deploy the canadian version of the M4; guess the highly trained and talented SF operators "know" which weapon is better in combat situations as well as specialist use)
