Two LAR LCPL Randy M. Heck Non-Hostile Death-Djibouti, Africa



The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Randy M. Heck, 20, of Steubenville, Ohio, died March 28 from a non-hostile incident in Djibouti, Africa. He was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

This incident is under investigation.

Randy M. Heck was born in Tulare, Calif., May 24, 1989, the son of Eugene Heck of Steubenville, Ohio and Teresa A. Black of Amsterdam, Ohio.

He was a 2007 graduate of Harrison High School where he excelled in track and football. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines during his senior year and served his first tour of duty in Iraq.


Survived by his wife Kara J. Bell Heck and daughter Cali of Steubenville.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial at Bloomingdale Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
